McKean County is situated in north central Pennsylvania and is bordered by the New York State boundary to the north, Warren County to the west, Elk County to the south, Cameron County to the southwest and Potter County to the east. The northern most part of McKean County is located approximately eight miles from Interstate 86. The southern most part of McKean county is located approximately forty miles from Interstate 80.
  According to the U.S. Census, McKean County has a population of 45,936. The largest built-up area, comprised of the City of Bradford, Foster Township, Bradford Township and Lewis Run Borough, has a total population of 19,134. Bradford and its adjacent area contains nearly fifty percent of the county population.
  Although timber is one of the most important industries in the county, many residents work in manufacturing and service industries. McKean County contains many important businesses, some of national and international significance. The area is also a year-round haven for tourists enjoying fishing, camping, boating and snow sports.   "The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is an integral part of our training program.
